The article is devoted to the analysis of the foreign policy actions of France in the Eastern Mediterranean at the end of the 14th – beginning of the 15th centuries based on data from the work “The Book of the Acts of Jean II Le Mengre”. Such areas of French foreign policy as the participation of the French in the crusade of 1396, the organization of Busico’s expedition to Byzantium in 1399 and the struggle against the Ottomans during the governorship of Jean II Le Mengre in Genoa are considered. It is concluded that the reason for the simultaneous strengthening of French influence in Byzantium and Italy was an attempt to gain access to eastern trade.
