Abstract

In recent times, reverse engineering forms a core part of technological innovation. The need to replicate, and/or redesign existing systems, makes this all too important. Methodologies for reverse engineering of products have already been extensively covered. However, validation, addition, and improvement to existing methodologies are required as a result of the constant improving techniques and tools available today. This paper aims to explore the benefits of incorporating rapid prototyping techniques into the well-established reverse engineering procedures. The new concept of Rapid Reverse Engineering (RRE) takes an innovative approach for efficient, fast, and economical means of reverse engineering, rapid prototyping, redesign and design verification, as a single method. RRE also firms up the auxiliary concept of discretization of complex machinery in reverse engineering, playing an essential role however reverse engineering is being applied.
