Abstract

The article is devoted only to a fragment fragmented in the Russian historiography, especially as regards its regional aspect. The study was carried out on the materials of the Documentation Center of Public Organizations of the Sverdlovsk Region (CDCE). It is alleged that the development of the problems of the systemic crisis that led to the collapse of the USSR is highly relevant, and the state of the consumer market is an important indicator of the economic situation of the country or its regions. It is stated that the most objective sources are the materials of federal and regional archives. It is declared that by examining the materials of archival funds, it is possible to reconstruct in detail the grave situation that has developed in the consumer market of the Sverdlovsk region and the whole country in 1990, the last year of the existence of the USSR. It is noted that the frequent absence of necessary consumer goods in stores was common for the population of the Middle Urals and most other territories of the country. It is proved that since 1990 the rapid and inevitable slipping of the country in the direction of even a crisis, not food crisis, has started. It is concluded that it was the crisis situation in the country's food markets that largely served as a catalyst for the events that led to the disintegration of the USSR in December 1991.
