Abstract

Rare earth metals (REM) are classified as critical types of mineral raw materials, on the possession of which the development of high-tech industries and the defense complex in the countries of the world depends, therefore, events taking place on the global REM market often have a political resonance. The paper traces the history of the emergence of China's leadership, shows that the country's dominance in the world market allows the use of various restrictions on the supply of REM in order to achieve political goals in confrontation with industrialized countries.
