Abstract

The culture of the Weimar era clearly demonstrates a predisposition to cynicism. Peter Sloterdijk as the author of the original concept of cynicism traces the relationship between modern cynicism and the models of consciousness of the German Modern. The symptom of the Weimar Republic means the collapse of “unhappy consciousness” modernization and the emergence of a cynical consciousness. The reflections of the Weimar period authors in Germany in literary works, essays, political treatises, public speeches and printed publications reflect the transformation of cynicism into a modern form, which is characterized as a universal diffuse phenomenon. The cynicism moduses of the Weimar era are conceptualized precisely because of historical distance and reactualized in modernity. The report briefly presents the main ideas of P. Sloterdijk, who uses an associative and constructive method to study the phenomenon of the Weimar Republic, represented in culture.
