*** The chapter illustrates the history and characteristics of oceanic accumulations of plastic waste with particular reference to the Great Pacific Garbage Patch highlighting their multiagential character and their examplarity as entities of intricate complexity beyond the human scale (Hyperoobject). These 'islands' rise as examples of contemporary ecological disaster and by their inherent characteristics assumed as experiential artifacts to be investigated. The proposed method is that of Speculative Fabulation, a particular narrative device that combines factual and fictional elements allowing for an unconventional view of the problem, rather an engagement with it for the purpose of raising inqiuetant questions rather than solutions.
