Break-in and Trauma in Freud's Theory

Abstract

Freud's emphasis on trauma in his theoretical work justifies following its chronology, to identify the main movements in his thinking around this figure of the break-in, the breaking down of the barriers protecting the interior of the psychic system against attacks from the outside. The break-in reveals itself to be an interesting analyzer of what constitutes (and how it is constituted) this interior, as well as its protective envelope: the ego.
