The use of languages of Central Balkan national minorities within family and educational settings is linked to ethnic self-identification and the transmission of these languages to subsequent generations. Data were collected in the Republic of North Macedonia, Albania, and Greece. The pri-mary determinant of ethnic self-identification among in-formants is the language spoken in their families during childhood, while language transmission is facilitated through language instruction in schools.
