Abstract

Tarih boyunca toplumların yönlendiricisinin dinigüdüler olduğunu söylemek yanlış olmayacaktır. Hıristiyanlıkla birliktebaşlayan misyonerlik faaliyetleri Sanayi Devrimi dönemine kadar kilise odaklıgerçekleşmiştir. Ancak Sanayi Devrimi’nden sonra ortaya çıkan akılcılıkhareketleri sonucunda misyonerlik faaliyetlerinin merkezini seküler eğitim veren kurumlar tutmuştur.Sömürgecilik hareketlerinin hedef noktalarından birisi olan Osmanlıİmparatorluğu ve Anadolu toprakları da bu misyonerlik faaliyetlerinden payınıalmıştır ve Amerika Birleşik Devletleri’nden gelen Protestan misyonerlerAnadolu’nun çeşitli noktalarında kendi eğitim kurumlarını kurmuşlardır. Buokullardan birisi de Kayseri’nin Talas ilçesinde bulunan Talas AmerikanOkulu’dur. Oldukça potansiyelli olan bu yerleşke bugün tam anlamıyla aktifkullanılamamaktadır ve yerleşkenin kente ve kentliye katılımıyla ilgili biröneriye ilerleyen bölümlerde temas edilecektir.
