In an ideal type of infrastructural pattern, the number of route options in distance and variation is maximised. In order to qualify the real infrastructural pattern, a comparison of the real infrastructural pattern and the ideal type is made. The comparison takes place using formulated indicators which are determined with the help of GIS techniques. Results show that the indicator that expresses the percentage of ideal nodes allocated by a node of the real situation serves as the best quality indicator. Furthermore it was found that extreme detour factors point to important missing links or nodes. In practical situations the percentage of allocated nodes and the detour factor can be used as evaluation or planning tools.
