Abstract

The publication, based on little-known and little-studied sources, some of which are being introduced for the first time, highlights the causes and content of the confrontation between Zemstvo liberals and the regional administration in the face of reactionary bureaucracy, nobility and conservative public in northern Left Bank Ukraine. The author concludes that this political antagonism was a completely natural consequence of the fundamental split in the ideological landscape of the region's public, which occurred as a result of the transformations of the Great Reform era in the Russian Empire, including the formation of conditions for broad political life
