Досліджено формування знань про необхідність впровадження полезахисного лісорозведення в Україні з кінця ХVІІІ ст. до середини ХХ ст. Вивчено досвід полезахисного лісорозведення та практичну діяльність у цій сфері. Розповідається про особливості діяльності найдавніших осередків степового лісорозведення та про піонерів захисного лісорозведення на теренах України. Показано, що відновлення радянською владою сільського господарства країни, зруйнованого бойовими діями періоду Першої світової та громадянської воєн було спрямоване на його модернізацію та зменшення залежності рівня урожаю від природних умов. Показано, що завдяки інтенсивній і продуктивній діяльності вже діючих в ті часи на Україні дослідницьких установ було остаточно доведено величезне значення степового лісорозведення для боротьби з посухою і отриманням високих і стійких урожаїв та допомогла розробить нові структури і типи полезахисних насаджень, правила їх розприділення та агротехнічні прийоми їх створення The formation of knowledge about the necessity of introduction of shelterbelt planting in Ukraine since the end of the XVIII century until the middle of the twentieth century is analyzed. The experience of shelter forestation is studied. It is said about the features of activities of the oldest centers of steppe afforestation and pioneer protective afforestation in the territory of Ukraine. It is shown that the restoration by the Soviet regime of the country’s agriculture destroyed by the fighting in the First World War and the Civil War was aimed at its modernization and reduction of dependence on the environmental conditions of its harvest levels. It is shown that due to the intense and productive activities of existing at that time research institutions in Ukraine it was finally proved that crucial steppe afforestation to combat drought and obtain high and stable yields, the new structure and type of shelterbelt plantings were developed, and the rules for the farming techniques to create them.
