Stamped Amphora Handles from Seyitomer Hoyuk

Abstract

The aim of this study is to introduce the stamped amphora handle fragments discovered at Seyitomer Hoyuk. These fragments are related to Layer II of the mound which is dated to the Hellenistic Period and to the amphorae of Thasos, Rhodes and Khios. The quantity of Thasian amphora handles are much more than the handles belonging to the other two sites. In the present study, the production sites of the stamped amphora handles are determined, classified, catalogued and dated in view of the contexts they belong and by comparing similar findings discovered at other sites. The commercial amphora fragments discovered at Seyitomer Hoyuk indicate that the site had, even if not very strong, trade relations with the Aegean Region during the Hellenistic period.
