Abstract

A los dieciocho años recién cumplidos Miguel también abandonó el campo. Un primo hermano suyo que había regresado al pueblo de paseo, después de cuatro años de ausencia, lo convenció hablándole de lo fácil que ahora resultaba conseguir trabajo en la ciudad de Panamá, debido a la política desarrollista impulsada por el general Noriega, quien estaba permitiendo la entrada de grandes inversionistas colombianos al país, para que contribuyeran a incrementar la llamada industria sin chimeneas. Miguel no se había enterado, pero era que en ese monte nunca se daban cuenta de nada y sí, Luis Eduardo tenía razón. Él también debía salir de ese pueblo caluroso, lleno de gente bochinchosa, en donde no tendría otro futuro que ser un mozo de finca o peón en la lechería de los Anguizola. Así que habló con sus padres, les dijo que por ellos, por sus hermanos menores y por él mismo se iría a la capital para conseguir un trabajo que les permitiera prosperar y salir de la pobreza en la que vivían; que su primo estaba dispuesto a recibirlo en su casa y ayudarlo a salir adelante.
