Abstract

L’epilèpsia és una alteració cerebral caracteritzada per la predisposició mantinguda per generar crisis epilèptiques (CE) i per les conseqüències que aquestes tenen per al pacient a nivell neurobiològic, cognitiu, psicològic i social. La International League Against Epilepsy (ILAE) defineix l’epilèpsia com (1) l’aparició d’almenys dues crisis no provocades (o reflexes) separades per un període superior a 24 hores; la presència d’una CE no provocada (o reflexa) amb alt risc de recurrència (> 60%); o bé el diagnòstic d’una síndrome epilèptica. L’objectiu del tractament farmacològic de l’epilèpsia és controlar les CE i mantenir o recuperar la qualitat de vida, tot evitant els efectes adversos del tractament.
