A rapid method for estimating leaf area index with the Li-Cor "LAI 2000 PCA" for oil palm

Abstract

Une nouvelle méthode d'obtention de l'indice de surface foliaire (LAI) a été comparée, à la station de recherche de Marihat (nord de Sumatra), avec la méthode directe conventionnelle couramment utilisée par le CIRAD-CP. Avec cette méthode directe, le matériel choisi (clonal et issu de semence) a présenté des valeurs de LAI de 3,4 à 7 pour des surfaces foliaires de 5,6 à 11,7 m2. En établissant les courbes de régression entre les 2 méthodes, on voit clairement que le PCA, sans correction et quand les 5 secteurs optiques sont pris en compte dans les calculs, sous-estime le LAI de près de 40 %. Cependant, une corrélation très significative est observée entre les 2 méthodes. La meilleure exactitude de l'appareil est obtenue quand on utilise seulement les 3 premières bagues centrales qui correspondent à un angle de vision du ciel de 43 degrés. Ces résultats préliminaires montrent le remarquable intérêt du PCA LAI-2000 dans les conditions des tropiques très humides, toutes les mesures devant être effectuées sous un voile nuageux constant de manière à obtenir des lectures précises sous et au dessus de la canopée.
