Abstract

Depuis une décennie, le profil du secteur bananier international s'est considérablement modifié. La production a fortement augmenté malgré les cyclones et autres aléas climatiques. Trois pays, l'Equateur, le Costa Rica et la Colombie, n'ont cessé de renforcer leur emprise sur le marché international et représentent maintenant les deux tiers de l'offre. La consommation a aussi largement évolué. L'Union Européenne consomme un niveau équivalent à celui des Etats-Unis . Une nouvelle demande émerge en Russie, Chine et Europe de l'Est. Les prix ont baissé en terme constant. Les cartes ont largement été redistribuées entre grands opérateurs commerciaux. Les évolutions de parts de marché sont dues en grande partie aux choix que ces grandes sociétés ont faits lors de la mise en place de l'Organisation Commune des Marchés (OCM) de la banane par l'union Européenne. Diversification des sources d'approvisionnement (ACP et communautaires), alliances, rachats, fusions, acquisitions d'entreprises européennes, de circuits entiers de distribution et de mûrissage, autant de stratégies qui se sont révélées largement payantes
