Implants contribution in maxillofacial prosthesis

Abstract

The maxillofacial prosthesis is part of medical prosthesis, it helps in re-establishment of a lot of fonctions like chewing, talking, smiling and all of the socials interactions. People who have lost a piece of their face need this kind of prosthesis to recover and relearn life. The loss of facial substance could come from a disease, a cancer, trauma or even a genetic etiology. Whatever the etiology is, the patient which will have a prosthetic rehabilitation needs to be studied in general, many prosthesis exist, removable, fixed, implant-retained or tooth stabilized. Even the retention ways are multiples, in the past the number one way to retained a prosthesis was adhesive, nowadays dental implants are the most used. Maxillofacial prosthesis is a group of prosthesis that can be external as epithesis like an ear missing or a nose. And also internal like a piece of titane to replace the bone in an hemi mandibulectomy.
