Abstract

An analytical review of environmental problems associated with technologies for processing, neutralization and disposal of radioactive fuel is presented. Attention is drawn to the need to introduce innovative technological solutions in this area. One of these solutions is the Breakthrough project of Rosatom Corporation. It is concluded that it is necessary to take into account a wide range of factors, including technological innovations, personnel qualifications, radiation safety monitoring and the development of alternative energy sources to ensure environmental sustainability in the field of radioactive fuel processing.
