
Pada tahun 2021, Kota Salatiga telah ditetapkan sebagai salah satu Kota Kreatif Indonesia dan dinominasikan ke UNESCO Creative City Network (UCCN) untuk kategori Creative City of Gastronomy. Namun demikian, upaya tersebut belum membuahkan hasil seperti yang diharapkan. Saat ini Kota Salatiga sedang mempersiapkan diri untuk kembali mengajukan diri sebagai kota kreatif gastronomi pada tahun 2023 mendatang. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif yang bertujuan untuk melihat kesiapan Kota Salatiga menjadi kota kreatif gastronomi. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui pengamatan dan wawancara dengan informan yang diperoleh dengan menggunakan snowball sampling. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Kota Salatiga belum sepenuhnya siap untuk dinyatakan sebagai kota kreatif gastronomi karena hanya sembilan dari 12 poin indikator dari UCCN yang terpenuhi. Kendala yang dialami oleh pemerintah dan pelaku Usaha Mikro Kecil dan Menengah (UMKM) dalam mempersiapkan kota kreatif gastronomi adalah kesiapan administrasi yang masih kurang, sebagian besar masyarakat Kota Salatiga belum mengetahui tentang gastronomi, serta kualitas sumber daya manusia (SDM) pelaku UMKM yang masih minim.
Salatiga City was named one of Indonesia's Creative Cities in 2021 and is a candidate for the UNESCO Creative City Network (UCCN)'s Creative City of Gastronomy category. These efforts, however, did not achieve the expected outcome. Salatiga City is now preparing to reapply as a gastronomic creative city in 2023. The aim of this qualitative study is to determine whether Salatiga City is ready to develop into a creative hub for gastronomy. Data was gathered through observation and informant interviews obtained through snowball sampling. Only nine of the 12 UCCN indication points were met, which indicated that the City of Salatiga was not yet fully prepared to be recognized a gastronomic creative city.The government and micro small and medium enterprises (MSME) face a number of challenges as they prepare for a gastronomic creative city, including the absence of administrative readiness, the lack of knowledge of gastronomy by the majority of Salatiga City residents, and the quality of Salatiga's MSME actors' human resources is still quite low.
