Abstract

The hypoxic - ische mic encephalopathy cause mortality and morbilidy in infants on the world. One of the consequenses of the deficits of the cerebral energetic metabolism is the aedema, in this work evaluated the effect of a potent diuretic previouslly to the hipoxic episode. Rats Wistar of 48 hours recibed furosemide i.p. (0.025 mg, 20g of weigth) ten minutes before to be expossure to a model of cronic an severe hipoxia (10% 02 and 90% N), one hour daily for three days. At day 27 were someted to a model of pasive advoidance learning (AEP), then were killed and removed brain and were determined total protein. Animals that received diuretic showed best response in AEP ; escape latency : 1.5 vs 4.3 in controls and 36- in hypoxics; retentions test : 34.36 quarters vs 41.86 in controls vs 54.6 in hypoxics ; total brain protein : the group with diuretic 23.92 g vs 21.04 g in controls and 20.5g in hypoxics. This results may be due to a diuretic protector rol in the hypoxia injury.
