Abstract

= In this paper we analyzed the names of the lakes region of Vitebsk, which contain in their composition token "abyss". Our goal – etymologize name of the lake region of Vitebsk with token "abyss". We adhere to the traditional consideration limnonima from both the form and content of the part. At the same time, we share the view of many scientists and researchers that "linguistic processing toponymic material without involving historical and other information in most cases can only be regarded as a preliminary method of investigation, the first step toward the goal" that is, to a complete and comprehensive analysis of the geographical the name of the study region.
