В. Путина

Abstract

= The article examines the vicissitudes of Russian-US relations in 2000-2004. Vladimir Putin made an attempt to establish constructive relations with the United States. This was due to the relative weakness of Russia, not ready for confrontation with the West. The Bush administration, on the contrary, before the events of September 11, 2001, did not consider Russia as a priority partner. Only the appearance of a mutual enemy in the face of international terrorism brought Moscow and Washington closer together. However, the neo-conservatives’ desire to use the fight against terrorists in order to build a unipolar world order led to a further deterioration in Russian-US relations.
