The purpose of the study is to critically examine the existing approaches to environmental risk assessment. Special attention is paid to the economic criteria of environmental hazard of industrial enterprises. As a result, the “narrow” positions and promising directions of the current practice of ecological and economic risk assessment of production and economic activity at the local level are identified.
