Abstract

The article discusses the results of a study conducted on the basis of associative experiments in order to study the peculiarities of the image of Minsk in the linguistic consciousness of the city’s residents. Modelling the image of Minsk included: processing questionnaires and structuring the associative field obtained by the Minsk stimulus word, highlighting the core and periphery. The stereotypical core of the image of Minsk is represented using the 10 most frequent associates of the field. The classification of all field associates made it possible to form cognitive layers reflecting the main directions of Minsk identification. The study showed that the image of Minsk in the linguistic consciousness of the city’s residents is characterized by multi-layering and positive connotation.
