Abstract

The article deals with the problem of derivative word enantiosemy as a case of polysemy, in which one sense of the word is in some respect the opposite of another sense of the same word. The authors determined that the typological kind of enantiosemy – derivative word emotional and evaluative (partial) enantiosemy – may be a result of word meanings widening. It was found that the partial enantiosemy is the change of word meaning by transforming the evaluative component of meaning with neutralization to the opposite. The most common enantiosemes that change the semantics of positive or neutral to negative are verbs.
