Abstract

This work shows practical necessity of material testing in complex stress state. The study pays special attention to the difficulties in triaxial tension material testing, one of them being the absence of standard methods, standard samples and machines for such kind of testing. We list common characteristics of multiaxial testing machines and formulate the requirements for the shape and dimensions of a triaxial tension samples. Moreover, we propose a cubic sample for such kind of testing and use it when conducting finite element modeling. We briefly describe hydraulic triaxial testing installation and illustrate the research with the experimental results for polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) cubic sample
