Abstract

Double case patterns are particularly remarkable among syntactic features of Church Slavonic. They occur with verbs which most generally denote a transition to a new state. The double accusative functions as an attribute and refers to the dominant feature of a person or object designated by the first case. In contrast to Russian, where the distribution of case forms of nouns in the predicative position has changed over the centuries, the Church Slavonic language consistently preserves the original regularity.
