Abstract

The article focuses on the educational activity of the German writer and translator J.M. Rodde. He pioneered one of the earliest books of the Russian grammar. The reasons for learning the Russian language by the Germans in the end of the XVIII and the beginning of the XIX centuries are studied in the context of his textbooks of Russian for foreigners.
