Abstract

The article presents the contemporary normative tradition of Great Britain focusing on the ways dictionaries present the changes of the pronunciation standard of English. The article gives a comparative analysis of the three most prominent pronunciation dictionaries Cambridge English Pronouncing Dictionary, Oxford Dictionary of Pronunciation for Current English, and Longman Pronunciation Dictionary from the viewpoint of the reflection of the latest tendencies in the British pronunciation and their degree of prescriptivism.
