Abstract

During the first year of a dog life the changes in motor function of stomach and salivary digestion are recorded. The aim of the research is to study the influence of salivary glands function on formation of periodic activity of the stomach in the early postnatal ontogenesis. The periodic motor activity of the stomach out of digestion was studied on 58 puppies at the age of 18 days 12 months. The formation rate of gastric motor activity was assessed by recording myoelectric activity (MEA) using a bipolar needle electrode. Parotid and submandibular salivary glands were removed in puppies aged 21 days. The experiments were performed on an empty stomach, 18 hours after the meal. Puppies up to 30 days of age have mainly continuous chaotic stomach contractions of tonic character. A period of relative rest, irregular and regular activity are formed during the first year of a dog life. The periods of rest and regular activity are formed by reducing the time of irregular activity. The study of the stomach contractile activity in puppies on the background of salivary glands removal in the presence of MEA showed short duration of each phase with respect to the control animals.
