This paper concerns the problems of the animate/inanimate and gender categories as they work in the present-day English and its Russian analogous versions suggested by the Russian professional translators. This problem has been investigated by means of using the authentic fiction texts written by the English speaking writers and their analogous texts translated by the Russian professional translators.
В статье рассматриваются проблемы выражения категории одушевленности/неодушевленности на аутентичном материале художественных текстов писателей, для которых английский язык является родным, и их переводов на русский язык, выполненных профессиональными переводчиками. Автор также анализирует связь категории одушевленности / неодушевленности с презентацией категорией рода.
