Abstract

The article provides an overview of the recent English-language studies regarding the Scottish rhetoric of the 18 th century. The lack of similar domestic researches and, at the same time, the importance of the philosophy of rationality for the modern world, involving such processes as democratic changes and epistemological shift, determine the relevance of the subject under consideration for the contemporary rhetoric development. The application of the range of foreign and national approaches to adoption of the global theoretic knowledge regarding the rhetoric determines the scientific relevance of the research. The undertaken study is an example of the efficient dialogue in the conditions of cross-cultural transformation of the modern society.
