Purpose. The article investigates the history of development of alternative forms of conflict resolution, in particular, mediation. Results and scientific novelty. Based on studying the mediation institution in different jurisdictions of the world the authors identify the most typical characteristics and the historic features, also, the adoption of the main positive trends in the development of this institution in the Russian Federation is assumed.

Цель. Статья посвящена исследованию истории развития альтернативных форм разрешения конфликтов, в частности процедуры медиации. Результаты и научная новизна. На основе исследования института медиации в различных мировых правовых системах авторами выделяются наиболее характерные их черты и исторические особенности, а также предполагается восприятие Российской Федерацией основных позитивных тенденций в развитии данного института.
