Abstract

The author of the article examines the cognitive aspects of the use of metaphor in the language of law, considers different types of metaphors and their functions: modelling, communicative and emotive. A special attention is paid to the fact that the metaphor is a representation of the processes of thinking and in this way it participates in creating a compression cognitive model in the conceptual system of a lawyer.
