This article advances a hypothesis on the origin of the legend of the descent of the lords of Vorotynsk from Prince Yuri (rather than Prince Lev). The earliest source that mentioned this legend was the Consolidated Genealogy of the Princes of Chernigov (from around the late 1520s early 1530s), followed by the genealogical records of the princely house of Novosilsk. Analysis of the Consolidated Genealogy of Princes of Chernigov suggests that it was compiled or edited by people who lacked deep knowledge of the family history of the princes of Novosilsk.

В статье высказана гипотеза о возникновении легенды о происхождении воротынских князей от князя Юрия (вместо князя Льва). Самым ранним источником, в котором имеется эта легенда, является Объединенный родословец черниговских князей конца 1520-х - начала 1530-х гг. Затем она отразилась в более поздних родословцах князей новосильского дома.
