Abstract

For about 20 years waters of the Lake Izmenchivoe have possessed characteristics close to sea ones due to intensive tidal water exchange. A channel, connecting the lagoon type Lake with the sea, was closed in the autumn of 2006. As a result of channel closing, a danger of a large-scale loss of sea fi shes and hydrobionts inhabiting the Lake, and poisoning the Lake with decomposition products arose. Conditions of the channel closing have been investigated, and recommendations on its clearing have been delivered. For that complex investigations of the sandbar state and the adjoining sea area have been conducted. It has been revealed that the channel closing is facilitated by destruction of a terrace to the north from the bar, washout of the ground to the sea by storm waves, and intensive sediments transportation southward under the infl uence of northerly winds, typical for a rear part of a cyclone.
