Abstract

The article reveals the role of UNESCO and the international community in preserving cultural heritage, subject to destruction in places of armed conflicts. Particular attention is paid to the World Heritage Sites of Syria, most of which are destroyed during the military clashes. There are analyzed the extent of Syria's cultural potential losses and ways of cultural heritage preservation, including drawing of public attention to this problem.
