Abstract

New fundamental knowledge about mineralogical features of a zeolite-bearing rock of the Terbunsky field as well as the study of nanostructured properties of the mineral is important for its rational and efficient use. The field is located in Kazinka, Terbunsky area, Lipetsk region. The explored reserves are more than 12.4 million m 3. 6 fractions were investigated isolated from the incision area (2-2.5 m). Zeolite-bearing rock of the Terbunsky field belongs to the minerals of the Santonian age. 5 selected fractions were thoroughly studied by scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive analysis. Ancient organic remains of algae and microorganisms were found in the coarse dispersed fractions that were sedimentated together with a mineral component during the geological periods. The share of organic inclusions does not exceed 1.5 %. A chemical composition confirms the presence of silicon and carbonate containing organisms. The predominant share consists of minerals that have a layered structure with lots of micro and nano pores of 600-80 nm size and medium chemical composition (mass %): Na (0.64), Mg (0.54), Al (13.48), Si (27.57), К (2.39), Са 0.75). In laboratory experiments extracts of three factions are investigated by a spectrophotometry method water, water-alcohol (50 %), phosphate buffer (pH 7) and an antioxidant activity is defined according to DPPH. The chemical composition of representative fractions of zeolite rocks of the Terbunsky field is investigated. The results complete the existing information on the chemical composition of the Santonian period rocks. The prospects of a comprehensive analytical study is shown for an investigation of natural minerals composition and properties. The use of original approaches (determination of antioxidant activity, study of the spectral characteristics) in the investigation of natural mineral extracts will enhance the prospects of their application.
