Abstract

The study has been focused on systematizing and evaluating the contribution of Kursk physicians to the development of Russian pancreatology. The analysis of Kursk scientists' work in the previous 60 years on the anatomy and morphology of the pancreas, large duodenal papilla, as well as etiology, pathogenesis, diagnosis, and treatment of pancreatitis has been carried out.We have identified 4 stages of Kursk pancreatology school formation. Putting scientists’ researches into clinical practice, and differentiated approach to managing pancreatitis and its complications made possible to reduce mortality in destructive forms up to 11%, and in chronic pancreatitis up to 17%.
