Abstract

The article identifies the main categorization direction of English idioms with proper names in terms of discourse. Phraseological contexts containing proper names are treated as components of the mythological discourse. A dialectical relationship between the proper name and its internal predicate is studied. The main categories of English phraseological units are identified on the basis of myths: idioms with a proper name in folksy myths, historical, biblical, literary and Shakespearean myths. The terms of phraseological unit and idiom are considered as interchangeable. The following research methods have been used: comparison, analysis, method of phraseological identification.
