Abstract

Travel literature appeared in Russia as a genre in the early stages of its historical development. This genre was very popular in the XVII century. Travel literature includes ambassadors' notes that they had to prepare as reports on negotiations on all issues. However, almost all the Russian ambassadors' notes were not limited to those goals. The abundance of impressions from the trip expanded the scope of this type of notes. As a result, the notes in the history of Russian literature take place between documentary literature and fiction. The article is dedicated to one of the outstanding monuments of the Russian book of the turn of XVII-XVIII centuries, notes about the trip to Europe, compiled by Boris Petrovich Shereme-tiev, field marshal and diplomat of Peter I epoch. Sheremetiev's notes are treated as a sample of the transition book memorials in this article. The composition is characterized by such features as poetics, which became Russian literature's discovery at the end of XVII century. It is an expression of individual views on the subject of the image, fictionalization of documentary storytelling, bringing the text the performance elements as a result of the influence of the Baroque style. The techniques used by the author are aimed at detailed description of the European space, being actively discovered by Russia at the end of XVII and beginning of XVIII centuries.
