Abstract

In the present paper are discussed the results of investigations of the morphological and anatomical features of Senna alexandrina Mill. leaves, containing anthracene derivatives and are the source of laxative phytopharmaceuticals. On the basis of the morphological and anatomical studies of the petiole of the of Senna alexandrina leaves there were determined the additional diagnostic characteristics and on this basis there were developed the criteria for the differential diagnostics of Senna alexandrina leaves, allowing the significantly identification of medicinal raw materials of this plant. It is determined that additional diagnostic signs of the raw material of this plant are sclerenchyma lining above the phloem, consisting of 4-6 rows of cells with markedly thickened walls, and the presence of closed three collateral bundles large medial and two small lateral protrusions in adaxial part of the petiole grooved form. There was developed the original method of identification of Senna alexandrian leaves, which can be successfully used in the pharmacopoeial analysis of the whole, crushed and powder plant materials (section of monograph «Microscopy»).
