The article is dedicated to one of the important versions of Nart epos – to the Ossetian epos, to the questions of cycle-forming. The issues of the plot structure of the Ossetian Nart epos as well as the question of polystyle composition have been addressed in the studies of scholars. However Nartian epic plot formation in terms of cyclization and the principles of cycle-forming in the Ossetian epos in interrelation of motives and plots in the cycle as well as links between cycles have not been considered yet. In this regard, we turned to the poetics of the Ossetian epos, primarily to plot-forming as the basis of cycle forming. We focused on the motive and the function of the motive of the circular system of the genre; the possibility of the development of the motive into the plot and particular qualities of motive combinations, their productivity and role in the process of the plot formation. The comparison of the motives and the plots in which these motives exist, allows to introduce the mechanisms of plot-forming and cyclization.
