Abstract

The published lexicographical works represent the lexis of Kostroma patois unevenly and insufficiently in terms of quantity. The material for regional dictionaries may be the dialect lexis collected in a field way as well as retrieved from different published sources and manuscripts. The latter are becoming increasingly significant at present in connection with the possibility of introducing large archetypic strata bringing out the essential traits of traditional dialect continuum. We refer Jefim Ĉestnjakov’s manuscripts abounding in dialecticisms to such sources. The dialect lexis of these manuscripts provided the basis for Jefim Ĉestnjakov’s folk colloquial language dictionary “The living word of the Unzha territory” created by Nina Gantsovskaya. Within this book, the dictionary “Where Jefim Ĉestnjakov lived” serves as a commentary on it. Nina Gantsovskaya and Yelena Veselova are planning to create a thematically expanded and structurally modified version of Jefim Ĉestnjakov’s folk colloquial language dictionary on the basis of recently deciphered materials. In the new dictionary, there will be not only the increased number of dialecticisms of the Unzha territory, but also examples of their usage in the living patois in the form of commentary.
