Proverbs and other clichés as a fragment of linguistic view of the world are dealt with. It shows the specific character of language symbol as the phenomenon of culture, which can possess personal significance or shared cultural meaning. The term proverbial is defined. The examples of usage of this lexical element in combination with proverbs, phraseological units and individual words in different contexts are analysed.
