Abstract

Among newspaper satires of Leonid Andreev published in «Courrier» (since 1900 till 1903) one may attribute four newspaper satires to the genre of theatre notices. They were published under the heading of «Theatre and Music», signed L.-ev and were notices to the performances of «Feeding Nurses» (the play by E. Brieux) staged in the Maliy Theatre and also the performances of plays «Modern Youth» and «Master Flaxmann» by Otto Ernst (O. E. Schmidt) and fantastic fairy-tale «Rupture Grass» by E. P. Goslavsky, staged in the New Theatre Andreev uses metaphors that are peculiar to his creative manner, motive repetition, ironic remarks, mixing abstract and concrete notions which becomes one of the methods of absurdity. The combination of all these methods gives an expressionist colouring to the texts of newspaper satire notices by Andreev.
