Abstract

Comparative analysis of reactive-and-destructive changes in tibial nerves of 33 dogs showed that lengthening of shin with an auto-distractor at 1 mm in 60 times during 12 hours was accompanied by its successful structural-and-functional adaptation to the increase of limb length. Auto-distraction with the daily rate of 3 mm causes more apparent demyelination of nerve conductors. Lengthening of shin at 1 mm in 4 times is the most traumatic of studied modes for tibial nerve, because it is accompanied by more apparent destructive changes of myelin fibers with prevalence of axonal degeneration and progressive loss of their number.
