Abstract

Problems associated with the use of model project of frame proprietary design to participate in the students' competition "Funny construction" are considered. Historical information is given about when and where this contest has appeared. Motivation and an algorithm of 10 points for the practical participation of students and teachers in this competition are studied. Examples of using Autodesk ForceEffect computer program to carry out the static analysis of the structure to determine forces in the rods are provided. As a result of calculations, weaknesses of the designed structure possible areas of its destruction are identified. Design correction is made to reduce internal stresses of the action of the same external load. The selection of farm materials and adhesives for connecting rods at the nodes is made on the basis of preliminary tests, as well as restrictions on the size and weight of the finished design. Upon completion of testing finished models, results of the competition are discussed. Strengths of the designs of the winners and weaknesses of losers are under study in order to take into account in the future work. Video presentation of all test events which is available on the Internet on the day of the competition is practiced. The winners are awarded with memorable gifts and all participants are encouraged by additional points in the final certification on structural mechanics.
