Словообразование, парадигмы и разряды прилагательных в древнеисландском языке

Словообразование, парадигмы и разряды прилагательных в древнеисландском языке

Abstract

The paper presents an overview of historical word-formation in older Germanic languages with regard to the process of fusion of word-stems and endings, that entailed re-organization of morphemic word-structure and related differentiation of paradigms of major word-classes within basic parts of speech. Special attention is given to functional correlation of strong and weak adjectives frequently treated as opposed word-forms. The author argues that in older Germanic languages strong and weak adjectives are different words, the statement is further supported by pointing to semantically motivated paradigms of strong and weak adjectives and lexical distinctions between the strong and weak adjectives formed from one root.
